Rome's Greatest Rival

While the Roman Empire may hog the spotlight when it comes to the Ancient Mediterranean, they had one major rival during their rise to greatness who nearly prevented the birth of the Roman Empire. Bu there was far more to the city-state of Carthage than being Rome's rival; it was a nation of commerce that united the Western Mediterranean through trade to establish trade routes connecting Southern Europe in the north to West Africa in the south only to fall into obscurity.
