Days 1-8: Belize City

After arriving in Belize, we'll spend our first full day learning about the Maya and their contributions to Belize's history with a visit to the Museum of Belize before spending the afternoon kayaking along the beaches of Bannister Island.

We'll the spend our second full day on a day trip to Altun-Ha- an important religious site for the Pre-Classic Maya dating back to 200 BCE.

For our third full day in the city, we'll go for a day hike in Billy Barquiedier National Park to learn about the ecology of Belize the Maya lived within during the height of their history.

We'll then spend our fourth full day learning about the Maya's relationship with the region's cave networks on a day trip to Nohoch Che'en Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve.

We'll then spend our sixth full day in Belize by learning about how the Maya of today continue to shape the cultural identity of the country with a day trip to the nearby town of Orange Walk.

Participants will then get a free day to explore Belize City on their own and learn more about the local history and culture for their final full day before departure.

Itineraries and daily schedules are subject to change. We expect to do everything listed in the itinerary, though the order may be rearranged based on weather or other local conditions.
