Arianism was an early sect of Christianity consisting of followers who believed that Jesus's birth served both as the start of his life on earth AND as the start of his existence- contrary to the established Church which believed Jesus had existed since before time in tandem with the other forms of the divine. Starting in Alexandria, Egypt with the priest Arius, Arianism became a popular- albeit heretical- sect among the Early Medieval Germanic peoples who toppled the Western Roman Empire and migrated to places like Italia, Iberia, and North Africa. Although short lived in Iberia, Arianism would make a lasting impact on the religious landscape of modern-day Spain under the Visigoths who would lay the foundations of Spain and Portugal today.
